hmm absorbs impact, has give to it, used among all open wheel cars in almost every aspect(parts), I think TTops that are made from carbon fiber are the least of worries, I would rather have a cf ttop then glass shattering in my face. A carbon fiber tub is probably one of the safest things in auto racing, ALMS series cars have many cf parts on their from the LMP1 to GT2 class. Thick Cf is usually prepreg that uses a honeycomb structure. You wouldn't believe the strength of carbon fiber. CF is used in aircraft construction as well. I am not sure what exactly they use it for but I am sure they are these things, wings, tail section, alerons, and more. Just a thought. Oh here is a thought if you have a flat sheet of cf laying around try to bend it till it breaks it has more give then you would have thought. Then again I probably wouldn't know anything since I work for Newman-Haas Racing Indy Car team.
